15 simple ways to say "I love you" to your cat

Updated: Jul 27

Cats speak in subtleties. They don’t ask for grand gestures, but they feel everything. Love shows up in their smallest rituals: shared sunbeams, slow blinks, gentle routines. In this post, we’re sharing a few of our favorite everyday ways to say “I love you” to your cat. Quietly, naturally, and on their terms.

Love can be shown in simple ways to our feline companions.

1. Let Them Sniff You After You Return Home

Your scent tells your story. After you’ve been outside, sit beside your cat and let them take in your scent. It’s how they catch up on your day.

2. Speak Softly Near Them

Cats don’t need constant conversation. But your voice—soft, familiar, low—is a cue of safety. Read out loud. Hum. They’ll stay close.

3. Create a Sunny Spot

A patch of sunlight on the floor can be a love letter. If you can, move a blanket or cushion to a place where the sun comes in. Watch your cat curl into it.

4. Respect Their Right to Say “No”

When your cat walks away from touch or play, respect it. That moment of space is also an act of love—one that builds deeper trust.

5. Play, Even for 3 Minutes

You don’t need long sessions. Just 3–5 minutes of daily play—especially with natural, healthy cat toys—stimulates their instincts and shows you care.

6. Mirror Their Slow Blink

A slow blink is a cat’s way of saying I trust you. Blink back, slowly and calmly. It’s one of the most tender forms of feline affection.

These quiet gestures don’t seem like much. But to your cat, they mean everything. We’ve compiled all 15 mindful ways into a beautifully designed, downloadable PDF. Its a free, high quality print and it’s our little way of spreading love in your home too.
